Soiree de Ballet 2019 ” A Great Success!”
The Scottsdale Ballet Foundation was pleased to sponsor the Scottsdale School of Ballet presented 2 wonderful performances at the Paradise Valley Community College on May 11th and May 12th. Both shows were a rousing success and all in attendance were treated to an evening filled with ballet, contemporary and Flamenco works.
The evening began with Contemporary works, where we saw interpretations of humanity and kindness with SSB Levels 3, 4 and Intermediate, give way to a visceral and powerful presentation by the Advanced level.
Always a hit, “The Ballet Class” was performed flawlessly by all levels. Followed by “The Enchanted Room” the students showed wonderful portrayals as characters in this faraway land. Charming “Flowers”, “Butterflies”, “Duchesses”, “Woodlings”, “Gnomes” and ethereal “Apparitions” who offset the powerful scene between “The Girl” and “The Monsters”. All the while “The Spellcaster” and her court surprised all when choosing “The Girl” as their queen. A touching moment was provided at the end when “The Girl” is awakened to find that maybe our dreams can come true.
Finishing out the evening was a wonderful interpretation of the classic, “La Bayadere Act II”. Here the Pre-Professional levels had their chance to shine and pull out all of the stops, in dancing many of the demanding roles with flair and aplomb. From a lilting “Fan Dance” to a rousing “Golden Idol”, the ballet finished with a “Pas de Deux” and “Wedding Guests” quartet that held the audience captivated throughout.
The performances, as always are made possible by the generous sponsorship and support of the Scottsdale Ballet Foundation.
